Jackie wanted to have a murder mystery dinner at her home in two weeks on Friday night. She invited her friends, most of her friends live nearby, so they were sure to come. Her sisters live with her, they want to help her create the dinner theater. They were sitting at the dining room table to discuss it. Jackie told her family.
“I have a card for each person invited to the dinner, it will be on the table with their name on it.” Rose asked.
“This is going to be wonderful, now who is going to be killed?”
“Let’s invite my sister,” Cindy cried loudly. “We can kill her, nobody will miss her!”
“Er mom,” Susan told mom. “You know we are not really killing people, this is make-believe!”
“Fiddle-sticks,” Mom said. “No one said that!”
“I was thinking,” Jackie smiled. “Our sheriff would enjoy solving the murders, but I want to kill him last to confuse everyone.”
“Good,” Cindy smiled. “You’re really going to kill him, right?”
“Er,” Susan asked. “Jackie you sound like your serious, tell me you’re not?”
“It will cook his goose,” I smiled. “To act like he is dead while everyone solves the murder.” Cindy smiled.
“Oh emotional pain,” Cindy smiled. “I love it, that’s my daughter!”
“See mom,” Rose told Cindy. “We are not killing anyone!”
“We need a full house, I added. “So it will not be easy to solve the murders.”
“Jackie, we have a full house all the time.” Susan frowned as she added. “Are they all going to be in on this?”
I passed out a list to each of my sisters and Cindy that outlined ways the guest or the residents could be killed.
“I don’t think poison should be on the list,” Rose added as she looked at the list. “Our guest would need to bring their own poison to do the dirty deed.”
Jackie set a tray on the table. It was full of small bottles labeled as poison.
“It is all make-believe silly.” I laughed. “This way we can provide the murder weapons. Look, I got them labeled with different poison labels, clever huh?”
“Hey,” Cindy asked. “Is my sister invited, which bottle is for her?”
“Look I even put the symptoms of poison on the label,” I ignored her. “I had to do some research!”
“Mom,” Rose told her mom. “Will you please look at the guest list Jackie gave us. You might see that your sister is invited.” Mom asked.
“Well,” Mom asked. “Did she give us an RSVP?” Susan rolled her eyes.
“Where is your mind tonight,” Susan asked. “There is an RSVP behind her name.” Cindy looked hard at it before she giggled.
“We can work on this tomorrow.” I said. “Susan it is time to put our mom to bed.” Susan was sad as she stood up.
“Come on mom, it is your bedtime.” Susan took mom’s hand to lead her upstairs. Rose said.
“I move the motion that we need to give mom multivitamins, Rose said. “The powerful kind!”
“I second that motion,” I said. “I will put in on my shopping list.”
“We still have 2 weeks before the big event,” Rose replied. “Did you talk to Emily about what she will cook for dinner?”
“Emily wants to serve roast beef,” Jackie smiled. “It takes a little while, but it is simple. Everyone will love it.” I added.
“We need to feed the people before we kill them.”
Rose giggled. “Now I am thinking like mom.”
I screamed. “James, you better not be pulling on our strings. I want a happy cheerful night, and leave us alone in the meantime. We don’t need your malice!”
James, the house spirit showed up semi-transparent. He was wearing a hat and a suit and looking like a gentleman holding a riding stick as if I pulled him away from something important.
“You accused me unfairly, malice indeed, I would not stoop to malice, I am a gentleman.”
Jackie leaned back and clapped her hands, Rose clapped too.
“I give that one a 10,” I said. “Bravo James!”
“James,” Rose said. “That was a solid performance.”
Susan hurried down to ask. “What did I miss?”
“Jackie accused James of using malice on us.” Rose told her. “He showed up wearing a fancy hat holding a riding stick acting like a gentleman as he told us that he would never stoop to malice.”
Susan giggled before she said. “That is a good one James!”
James rolled his eyes before he disappeared.
“We voted to get mom powerful multi-vitamins,” Rose said. “She is loopy.”
“Yeah she is,” Susan agreed with a smile. “But she is funny!”
“Jackie,” Susan asked. “Are we going to tell everybody what weapons are available? That way they can think about how to kill someone.”
“You are overthinking this.” I told her. “I already know who is going to die, and how. Our guest has to figure out who the killer
