1 Safeguarding Children in Madrasahs Handbook A Madrasah is a complementary school, normally attached to a Mosque, which provides basic Islamic education with primary religious teachings, teaching of the Quran and languages along with developing social responsibility and addressing social issues. The Arabic plural form of the word Madrasah is Madaris. We have deliberately anglicised the plural word Madaris to Madrasahs throughout this document in view of their familiarity and widespread usage.
