Skater's Waltz Cardigan
Materials: Briggs and Little Soft Spun or
Regal 113g x 4 (4, 5)
1 50cm (20") open end zipper.
Needles: 5mm (US 8) 60 cm (24") circular
and 40 cm (16") circular. 5mm (US 8) double
point set OR needle size to give correct
tension.
Tension: 18 sts = 4" on 5mm (US 8) needles
over stocking stitch (st st). Please adjust
needle size to acheive correct tension if
necessary.

Abbreviations:
K2tog = Knit two stitches together as if they
were one
SSK = Slip two stitches to the right hand
needle one at a time as if to knit. Insert the
left hand needle through fronts of sts then
knit together from this position. This decrease
can be substituted with Sl1, K1, psso (Slip one
stitch, knit one stitch, pass slipped stitch over
the knit stitch).
M1 = Make one stitch by picking up the bar
from the row below and placing it on the left
hand needle, then knit it through the back.
Pattern Stitches Used
Mini Cable Rib (multiple of 4 sts plus 2)
Row 1: *K2, P2* repeat to last 2 sts, K2
Row 2: *P2, K2* repeat to last 2 sts, P2
Row 3: *Make Mini Cable as follows: K2tog
without removing sts from the left needle. K
into the first st again and slide both sts from
the left hand needle, P2* repeat to last 2 sts,
make Mini Cable.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 only.
Fronts and Back:
With 24" circular needle, cast on 150 (170,
190) sts. Knit the first 4 and the last 4 sts of
every row while working the remaining sts in
Mini Cable Rib for 7 rows.
Note: The first and last 8 sts will form
the front borders and will be worked in
the pattern stitch given below for the
entire garment.
Next Row (Right Side): Work the first 8 sts as
follows: K4, Make Mini Cable, P2, work in st st
to the last 8 sts, P2, Make Mini Cable, K4.
Next Row (Wrong Side): Work the first 8 sts as
follows: K4, P2, K2, work in st st to the last 8
sts, K2, P2, K4.
Continue to work all sts as established by the
last two rows until 11 rows have been worked
from the last row of rib, ending on a right side
row.
Next Row (Wrong Side): Work 39 (43, 49) sts,
place marker, work 72 (84, 92) sts, place
marker, work 39 (43, 49) sts to end.
On the next and following 12th rows, work to
within 1 st from each marker, M1, K1, slip
marker, K1, M1, until 166 (186, 206) sts.
Continue working sts in pattern without
further increasing until piece measures 12"
(12.5", 13") from the cast on edge, ending on
a wrong side row.
Divide for Raglan Shaping: Next row: Work 4
(5, 5) sts past the first marker. Slip the last 8
(10, 10) sts worked onto a stitch holder,
removing marker. Repeat for the second
marker. Keep the remaining sts on the needle
to be worked later.
Sleeves: Cast on 40, (44, 48) sts with double
point needles. Work in Mini Cable Rib in the
round as follows:
Rnd 1: *K2 P2* repeat to end
Rnd 2: *Make Mini Cable, P2* to end
Repeat these two rounds until 6 rounds have
been worked. Continue in st st for 10 rounds.
Next Round: Place a marker at the beginning
of the round and work to end.
On next and following 12th (12th, 10th)
rounds, work to within 1 st of the marker or
end of round , M, K1, slip marker, K1, M1, work
to end of round until 48 (54, 62) sts. Change
to 40 cm (16") circular when there are enough
sts to fit onto the needle without stretching.
Continue working without further increases
until piece measures 18" from cast on edge.
Next Round: Work 4 (5, 5) sts, slip the last 8
(10,10) sts worked onto a holder. Leave the
remaining sts on the needle to be worked
later. Make the second sleeve in the same
manner.
Yoke: Beginning on a wrong side row, resume
knitting the Fronts and Back, keeping the
continuity of the pattern sts. Work the left
Front until the first stitch holder, place marker,
then work across the sts on the needle of the
first sleeve, place marker. Work across the sts
of the Back, place marker, and then across the
sts on the needle of the second sleeve, place
marker. Work the remaining sts of the right
Front. 230 (264, 290) sts.
Next row (Right Side): Work across the sts of
the right Front until within 6 sts of the first
marker. *SSK, P1, Make Mini Cable, K1, slip
marker, K1, Make Mini Cable, P1, K2tog*.
Continue across the row, working to within 6
sts of each maker and repeating the
instructions between *'s.
Next row (Wrong Side) Work across the sts of
the left Front within 4 sts of the marker, *K1,
P2, K1, slip marker, K1, P2, K1*. Continue
across the row, working to within 4 sts of each
marker and repeating the instructions
between *'s.
Work the last 2 rows until there are 23 (24,
26) sts from beginning of row to the first
marker, 8 sts from first to second marker, 40
(46, 46) sts from second to third marker, 8 sts
from third to fourth marker and 23 (24, 26) sts
from fourth marker to the end. 102 (110, 114)
sts.
Neckband:
Next Row (Right Side): Work 8 sts in pattern,
then work the remainder of the row as follows,
according to your size.
Size Small: K to within 4 sts of first marker,
P1, Make Mini Cable, K1, remove marker, K1,
Make Mini Cable, P1, K2tog, K36, SSK, P1,
Make Mini Cable, K1, remove marker, K1, Make
Mini Cable, P1, K to last 8 sts. Work last 8 sts
in pattern. 100 sts
Size Medium: K to within 6 sts of first
marker, *SSK, P1, Make Mini Cable, K1, remove
marker, K1, Make Mini Cable, P1. Knit to within
4 sts of next marker, P1, Make Mini Cable, K1,
remove marker, K1, Make Mini Cable, P1,
K2tog*. K to last 8 sts. Work last 8 sts in
pattern. 108 sts
Size Large: K2tog, K7, K2tog. Knit to within 6
sts of the first marker, SSK, *P1, Make Mini
Cable, K1, remove marker, K1, Make Mini
Cable, P1* Knit to within 4 sts of the next
marker, repeat between the *'s, K2tog. Knit to
within 6 sts of the next marker, SSK. K7, SSK.
K to last 10 sts, SSK. Work last 8 sts in pattern.

Next Row (Wrong Side): Work 8 sts in pattern,
*P2, K2* repeat to last 10 sts, P2, work last 8
sts in pattern.
Continue to work first and last 8 sts in pattern
while working the remaining stitches in Rows
2 and 3 of Mini Cable Rib until 4 rows of rib
have been completed.
Next row: Work 8 sts in pattern, *Make Mini
Cable, P2tog* repeat to last 10 sts, Make Mini
Cable, work last 8 sts in pattern.
Next row: Work 8 sts in pattern, *K2, P1* to
last 10 sts, K2, work the last 8 sts in pattern.
Cast off loosely
Finishing: Transfer the stitches from the
holders onto double point needles. Graft the
stitches from the sleeve holders to the
stitches on the underarm holder. See grafting
instructions below. With 5mm (US 8) double
point needles, cast on 2 sts and pick up and
knit 1 st from the cast on edge of the right
front. *Without turning the work to the wrong
side, slide the sts to the opposite end of the
needle, and bring the yarn from the end of the
row to the beginning. K1, SSK, pick up and K1
from the right front edge.* Repeat between
the *'s until the edging has reached the cast
off edge of the neck. Repeat for left front,
beginning at the cast off edge of the neck and
working down to the cast on edge. Sew zipper
by hand, close to the teeth.
Grafting Instructions: Thread a yarn
darner with about 18" of yarn. With the right
side facing and the needles held parallel to
each other, insert the darner into the first
stitch of the front needle as if to purl. Draw
the yarn through and leave the stitch on the
needle. Insert the yarn darner into the first
stitch of the back needle as if to knit. Draw
the yarn through and leave the stitch on the
needle. Continue as follows: *insert the
darner into the first stitch of the front needle
as if to knit. Draw the yarn through and let the
stitch slip from the needle. Insert the yarn
darner into the second stitch of the front
needle as if to purl. Draw the yarn through
and leave this stitch on the needle. Now insert
the darner into the first stitch of the back
needle as if to purl. Draw the yarn through
and let the stitch slip from the needle. Insert
the yarn darner into the second stitch of the
back needle as if to knit. Draw the yarn
through and leave this stitch on the needle.*
Return to the stitches of the front needle and
repeat between *’s until there are no sts
remaining on either needle. Weave in end
and trim.
