A SYNOPSIS...
Sky is starting to settle into her new home, but that doesn’t mean that she’s calming down. When a school prank goes a little too far, she finds herself being given an offer she can’t really refuse, but will she be able to keep up to her side of the deal?
Cory is falling hard for Sky. He knows that she’s the girl he’s been waiting for, but she keeps pushing him back. When she makes it clear to him that she isn’t looking for anything serious, he is still sure in himself that he will be able to change her mind, but when his best friend goes behind his back, will he still be able to see that happily ever after he’s been planning?

“Trust your heart if the seas catch fire, live by love though the stars walk backward.”
- E.E. Cummings
CHAPTER 1
Monday - Cory
I should have kissed her. I should have had the balls to kiss her when we were swimming in the river. Who wouldn’t have kissed her? She was a transcendent beauty in the pale moonlight with the clear waters of the river breaking around her curves. She’d been so close to me, too. I’d been able to smell the watermelon lip gloss she was wearing and the strawberry scented shampoo she’d used on her hair, and some richer, delicious smell that was Sky herself. She’d smelt delicious. She’d smelled just like an angel might if it were trying to calm you down and remind you of what love was made of.
I didn’t kiss her, though. That was the simple fact of the matter. I didn’t kiss her. I should have done it. I had the opportunity to, but I didn’t. This was the main thought cycle I had when I woke up late Sunday afternoon with nothing but a hangover and series of regrets to hug to myself. She’d obviously wanted me to kiss her. That’s why she’d pushed her body up so close to mine. That’s why she’d whispered those final words so close to my lips.
By Monday morning I was going crazy. Would I ever get another chance? Had I blown it for good? Was she the one and I’d somehow messed it up before it had even begun? I tried to remind myself that I had only known Sky for a week. I tried to remind myself that during that week I’d spent less that twenty four hours with her, but that didn’t seem to matter. It seemed that no matter how relevant I might find time, my heart was not impressed.
I arrived at school a little early, but I didn’t bother to hang around outside. When I’d been a freshman I’d dated a girl from my History class called Chloe. She was a nice girl and our first date seemed to go really well. So well, in fact that I thought we were going out by the end of it. The following Monday at school I’d waited outside for her for almost an hour. When I finally gave up and went to class I found out that she’d started seeing some guy from the year above us. I was gutted and humiliated.
I got to my Science class and saw that Danny was already standing outside of the door. “Hey man,” I said, as I walked over to him. I could already smell the feint chemically aroma of the classroom and I tried not to breath too deeply.
“What happened to you Saturday night?” he asked me, as he turned slowly and sleepily towards me. “I went to that party, but you weren’t there.”
“Well, I went, but then I left,” I said with a shrug, because I wasn’t sure how much of the night and my terrific failure I wanted to share with him.
“I take it the date didn’t go so well?” I could tell that he assumed that I’d either been stood up or ditched at the party.
